Over the River and thru the Woods….

Well Hey Yall!!! So good to have Yall visiting today with Us on Our Front Porch. Sure glad You got to spend this time with Us on this chilly day. Hope Your Family is doing well and your work week off to a good start.

It is a short work week for most of us since the Thanksgiving holiday is this week. This is one of my favorite holidays. I like to call it the “talking” holiday. Where Families big and small will gather for great food and good conversation. Its always been a time to play catch up with everyone.

Turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, deviled eggs, broccoli soufflé, squash casserole, mash potatoes, corn niblets, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, candied sweet potatoes, cornbread, angel biscuits, pecan pie, banana pudding, pumpkin pie, pineapple upside down cake, chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake brownies and of course good ole Maxwell House perked coffee and sweet tea headline the Ranch Menu this year.

Now in Our family it was not just about the eating, it was about the cooking too! Grandma and Mamma and all the women in the Family sipping coffee and chopping and mixing. In later years after Grandma passed away it would be me and Momma and My kids. Granddaddy called them hen parties. Lots of laughter and love in the kitchen. (That’s still my favorite room in the house). Yall know, I can even close My eyes and hear the laughter still. Those made some good lasting, cherished memories.

Now, once again, its time for all the wonderful holiday traditions and a chance to make some wonderful new memories too……always a blessing around the corner we just have to slow down a might and look for them.

Counting Our Blessings is always how We start the Holiday. This year I decided that I want to start it off since Our Family has had such a tough year…… I am so thankful for Sheila, Jake, Grace and Brian. Yall make the tough times bearable. I am also thankful for Our dear sweet extended Family Elaine, Erica, Briley and River, All Our Families,  great Friends and Neighbors, Our Church Family and for each and every one of You reading this blog. Yall are all such a wonderful blessing.

We hope Yall have the best Thanksgiving ever! Be sure to come back and visit with Us again on Our Front Porch and tell the Family We said Hey and Happy Thanksgiving!

Ranch Life

Well Hey Yall!!! So good to have Yall visiting today with Us on Our Front Porch. Such a special treat to have You spending this time with Us today. Hope Everyone is fat and sassy and doing well.

With Dog Days finally over and some bad weather behind Us, the Ranch Family is looking very forward to some extra good Holidays ahead of Us. This is truly Our favorite time of year. We went to town the other evening and the stores have already got Their pumpkins out for sale. I just love seeing those big orange balls of happiness sitting on everyone’s front steps. And my, oh my, the pumpkin cookies and cup cakes and pies they had for sale looked wonderful.  I went home that night and made two yummy pumpkin pies for the Ranch Family to enjoy.

That reminds me Yall, locally We hope to be selling some home baked goodies, pecans, and hand sewn quilts at Our Farmer’s Market for the Holiday Season if Yall are not local to Us be sure and go out and support the Farmer’s Market in Your own Home Community.

Fall and Winter are the months we do a lot of projects, maintenance and repairs to the out buildings and Ranch land itself.  This year I have already started my list of chores and projects. I always like to include a fun new project for us to work on too so if anyone has any budget friendly ideas for something the Ranch Family could work on together be sure to drop Us a note in the message box and tell Us about your ideas.

The Ranch Family is surely blessed with wonderful, loyal and caring Friends. They make the hard times bearable.  Yall know life, like a river keeps moving forward. Remember that the bad times will not last. Find joy in the little things life offers you. God blesses each of Us every day in small ways. Make sure to take time and look for His blessings. And then when You are out of Your troubled times, be sure to be a blessing to someone else who may be going thru hard times. God is so good.

Well, We sure have enjoyed Your time with Us today on Our Front Porch. Yall be sure to come back and see Us again real soon, drop Us a note from time to time and let Us know how Your doing and please tell the Family We said Hey!

Straight up or Sideways…

Well hey Yall! Nice to see Yall today on Our Front Porch. Hope Your weekend was fabulous and Your work week gotten off to a grand start.

We are half way thru Dog Days Y’all. Autumn is just around the corner. Yee Haw!! This is one of my favorite times of year. Not too hot and not too cold. I was sitting on the front porch swing yesterday evening and even though its still hot, You can almost just smell the change coming in the air.

The Kids are already looking forward to the holidays and so am I. I know the department stores will run the holidays all together like usual. Happy New Hallowthankistmas. But at the Ranch we try to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years separately. Each time is so special on its own and this year looks like its really going to be awesome.

I already have some ideas for the Christmas presents we are going to make this year. Oh yes if anyone has a good recipe for ole time Divinity please send it too us. I have never made it before but I am going to make it for a sugar sweet someone this year…or at least try to make it.

My wise Momma use to tell Me “When You hit rock bottom You only have two ways left to go Yall…straight up or sideways.”  Well I ain’t gonna lie, We been going kinda sideways for a few months now. But Yall God is so good! He has blessed Us with Family and Friends that love Us. Don’t know what We would do without each of Yall! Now all We have to do is wait on those blue skies.

Well, We sure have enjoyed Your visit with Us today on Our Front Porch. Always a wonderful treat to spend a little time with Yall.  Do come back and see Us again real soon and be sure to tell the Family We said Hey!

Well Hey Yall! So glad We get the chance to spend some time with You today On Our Front Porch! Thanks so much for stopping by to see Us. It really means a lot.

Yall know life is always changing and rearranging things. Sometimes those things are wonderful changes and sometimes those changes are not so wonderful changes. This Ranch and the Ranch Family, just like Yall, have Our fair share of ups and downs. And, just like Yall, We do the best We can with what choices We have at the time.

For Me, its always been about moving forward, taking care of the ones I love and keeping My focus on the task at hand. Like my Momma and My Grandma Ola and my Great Grandma Chat ….. home and family are the most important things.

But even the best of Us get discouraged. And right now that includes Me. I try real hard to be strong and to take care of those I love. I pray continually to see God’s plan and for the serenity to accept it.

I pray thankfully also for the many blessings We have in Our life. For the people who love Us and are loyal to Us, the many Friends and Family who continue to pray for Us and of course the Ranch. Yall are all awesome, awesome Folks.

I know this post is somewhat different than most of the ones I write. God just put this on My heart and I just needed to write it. I pray for abundant blessings for each and every one of You reading this, especially Yall who are going through tough times too. Just keep moving forward. God is always good!

Thanks so much for visiting with Us today on Our Front Porch. Yall be sure to come back and see us again real soon and as always, please tell all the Family We said Hey!

Laundry Day

Well Hey Yall! Its so good to have you spending a little time with Us today on Our Front Porch. Always a special treat to get to have Yall here and to share a little bit of this country life with You.

We have a little ice cold sweet tea (the house wine of the south) in the ice box if you want some. I think I am going to make some more tea this afternoon. Maybe make some yummy fudge brownies and a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting…..yummmmmmm.

We had ten sweet ducks waiting on me this morning for some corn. Jake and Grace saw two baby ducks last week with them but I haven’t seen them yet. I keep hoping to catch a glimpse of them soon. I think ducks are my very favorite birds.

I am sad to report that my Hibiscus plant did not make it thru all this heat. I am still not sure what I did wrong with it. I need to do some more research on those. I haven’t had them before. Its a shame too. It had a very pretty pink flower.

Today is laundry day. Wash, dry, fold and put away. I always wanted one of those big walk in linen closets. Shelves of neatly folded sheets and towels galore. Think I will add that to my wish list.

I hope that the bumps in your life are very small ones. Please come back and visit with Us again on Our Front Porch. Have a great week and tell the Family We said Hey!

A Way of Life

porch1     Well hello there! Welcome Yall to Our Front Porch! So glad to have You stopping by and taking the time to visit with Us today. Always a special treat to have You spend some time with Us. Hope Your work week has started off good and Your Family fat and sassy.

christmas mailbox     The Ranch has gotten a good bit of rain this past week. Still the heat has been high, especially thru the middle of the day.  We always take care of chores early in the morning or late in the evening when its so very hot outside. I think the Lord gave Us the heat of Summer so we all would look forward to the Fall and Winter months. I love Fall and Winter, not just because of the cooler temperatures but also because I just love all the holidays and the decorating and sharing the fun times with Family and Friends.

cake     We’re baking a company cake today. My sweet tooth is kicking in. My sweet Momma always had a company cake baked on Sundays in case We had any visitors after church time. Usually she made a yellow cake with chocolate icing because most folks liked that kind. Every now and then she would change it up and do something different, especially during the holidays.

my quilt1     I’m kinda itching to work on my quilts some even though its hot weather. I have a Christmas quilt top I might try to work on soon. My Grandmamma Maola made the most beautiful quilts from just scraps. I always think of her when I work on my quilts. She was so talented.

me     Well We sure have enjoyed Your visit with Us today on Our Front Porch. Hope You have an awesome week. Drop Us a line and let Us know how Yall are doin and please tell the Family We said Hey!

porch     Well Hey Yall! So glad to have you visiting with us today on Our Front Porch! Hope your holiday was extra good and your Family doin well. The holiday weekend has put the Ranch Family a little behind on chores so we are all playing catch up today.

fireworks     The Kids had a good time poppin a few fireworks outside. We didn’t do too many cause we were worried about frightening Our animals since they are so loud. The fourth always reminds me of my brother Gregg. He loved going to see the fireworks. He took me and the kids to see them a lot. We really miss him.

brats     The Ranch family had some super good Hamburgers on the grill for the holiday celebration and even had a few Brats. First time We had had them on the grill, but it won’t be the last cause they sure were good. I made some seasoned fries and We had warm fudge brownies with homestyle vanilla ice cream for dessert. Yummy!!

dog days     The temperatures sure were hot over the holiday too. We want to remind Everyone to be extra careful in this heat since it is almost Dog Days. For Yall City Folks that’s the last week of July, all of August and the first week of September. To  Farmers, a dry growing season through the dog days was preferable to the trouble of a wet season:

Dog days bright and clear
Indicate a good year;
But when accompanied by rain,
We hope for better times in vain.

me     Well We sure hope You enjoyed Your time on Our Front Porch today. Always a special treat to get to spend some time visiting with You. Drop Us a line when You can and let Us know how Yall are doin and please tell the Family We said Hey!

Southern Supper Yall

porch4     Well Hey Yall! So good to have you stop by and visit with Us today on Our Front Porch. Hope Your week is going fabulous! Today has turned out to be such a beautiful day outside.  Hope you get the chance to enjoy some of it.

tea bags cookin     We are about out of Sweet Tea Yall so I got a little pot steaming on the stove top. Plenty of ice in the freezer though so we should be good. Yall can help yourself. I keep thinking I am going to start a little tea garden. I would love to plant some spearmint and peppermint  oh and some chamomile too! We did not plant a garden this year, just too much going on. Hopefully next year we will have a huge one.

S-grits-1     I think The Ranch Family is going to have “Southern Supper” tonight. For Yall Front Porch Friends that aren’t southern that’s scrambled eggs (I like mine over easy), bacon or sausage, buttermilk biscuits and grits and butter. Sometimes We will make toast in place of the biscuits if We are running low on flour. When I was a little girl we use to have Southern Supper at least once a week. My Momma was a single Mom and didn’t always have time to cook a big breakfast before We all had to get going in the mornings. It was always one of My favorite Family meals.

snickerdoodles     I made some snickerdoodle cookies this morning. They turned out pretty good. I got to work on the sizes though. Next batch I will try to make them more uniform. They sure are yummy.

rugs     We are cleaning rugs this week along with Our regular chores. Grandmamma always cleaned her rugs and let them air dry in the sun before rolling them up to store during the hot months. I would love to find one of those old antique wire rug beaters.

me     So glad You got the chance to stop by and see Us on Our Front Porch today. Hope you get the chance to drop in again real soon. Yall stay safe and tell the Family We said Hey!

Gardenia Blossoms

porch4     Well Hey Yall. I’m so glad Yall stopped in to visit with Us today on Our Front Porch.  Always good to see ya. Hope Your Your Father’s Day was grand and Your work week has started off well. How is Your Family doing?

My greenhouse     Lots of Rain today in Our neck of the woods. The almanac says We got rain comin tomorrow too. Love the way the rain drops sound on the old tin roof of the barn. Unfortunately the rain we got at the Ranch yesterday really weighed down the limbs of the mulberry tree that hang above the little greenhouse we have near the courtyard. We went out and looked at it late yesterday evening and the PVC we used to form the arch in the roof just gave way from the weight. Needless to say we are going to have to repair the roof or maybe even replace it before to much longer.

devils cake     We made a yummy Devils Food Cake with Milk Chocolate icing this weekend. That thing was so very good. I don’t think it lasted but 2 days before it was all eaten up. I think Gracie and Jake are gonna help me make some cookies this week and maybe some brownies too. Brownies would be so good with some vanilla bean ice cream. Yum!

gardenia     I meant to tell Yall I was so excited to find the small Gardenia Bush in the courtyard blooming the other day! First time its bloomed since we planted it last fall. Now Yall know that Gardenias are one of my very favorite flowers right along with Hydrangeas and Camellias and Roses. There were a lot of blooms on the little bush and all of them smelled so wonderful! Always reminds me of the house where I was born in Georgetown. Momma had a huge Gardenia Bush right by the front door and every time someone came in that wonderful sweet smell would fill the air. That’s is one of my favorite childhood memories too. Always gives me such a warm feeling of home and comfort. Isn’t it special that something as small as the smell of a flower in bloom, could end up meaning so much to Me so many years later. What a Blessing Yall.

Dixie Crystal Sugar     Well Yall I am out of Sugar so I best get to the store and get some more before They close. We go through a good bit with Our Coffee and Iced Tea, not to mention all the Baking We do each week. Well Yall come back and see Us again real soon. Stay safe and please tell the Family We said Hey!

Harvey & Roxanne

porch10     Well Hey Yall! This is such a treat! So glad to having You stopping by Our Front Porch today. Hope Your Family has been doing well and Your work fine and dandy.  I got some sweet ice tea good and cold in the icebox. Lets sit a spell and visit.

pecan pie     We’re baking a yummy Pecan Pie for dessert after supper tonight. Gonna serve that with some Homestyle Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Thinking about grilling some Bar B Que Chicken on the grill too. I just love summer suppers. They just always seem so quick and easy, not to mention yummy. Of course anything on the grill is always better.

ducks     Our Ducks were swimming in the little Duck Pond this morning. Well I say Our Ducks. Truth is, these are some Ducks that are wild and just come to visit. They just showed up one day with Quackers and have been coming back on Their own now.  I named them Harvey and Roxanne. They are very sweet and They fly very, very well. I think God sent them to Me cause He knows how relaxed I get watching Them play and swim. Such a Blessing to have, I love them so.

yellow roses     I got a pretty yellow Rose Bush I am going to plant this evening when the temperatures cool off some. I love Roses of all colors, but yellow Roses are some of My very favorites. It has been really hot lately which doesn’t bother Me as much as the humidity does. But it sure makes it hard to do a lot of gardening or really any yard work though.

sewing-basket     I’ve got to get some more quilting thread when We go to town next. I have run out and I have a few places that need mending on one of My favorite quilts. I wish I had a big sewing room set up where I could work on My sewing and not have to store it away always. Or even better, big enough to have a few Friends over to help quit like the old time quilting bees.

me     Well we sure have enjoyed Your time with Us on Our Front Porch today. Sure hope You get the chance to come back and visit with Us again real soon. Yall stay safe and please tell the Family We said Hey!
